Angela Booy, RCC
I am an educator and therapist with the honour and privilege of supporting individuals as they navigate the challenges of being a unique human in a complicated world.
I specialize in helping adults (20+) process interpersonal wounds and historical trauma. While my practice is able to address a range of concerns, I am particularly well-suited to work with those who identify as highly sensitive, big/deep feelers, neurodivergent individuals, humans from intersectionally marginalized communities and most specifically the LGBTQIA+ community.
Through attachment-based, somatic, and emotion-focused therapy approaches, I support my clients in facing and shifting how they carry their personal pain and suffering. Together, we work to access peace, balance, and movement, creating a sense of groundedness, presence, and security in connection to themselves and others.
What it’s like to work with me
I might not be what you might expect from a typical therapist. I am not simply a neutral observer or a blank slate—I am someone who shows up fully, engages honestly, and invests wholeheartedly in the work we do together. I will reflect back what I notice and experience with you, and I will be real and authentic every step of the way. Expect a comfortable, down-to-earth approach from me; you’re more likely to find me in comfortable sportswear than in business formal wear.
I believe in honoring your unique complexity, not by giving advice or telling you what to do, but by using genuine curiosity to help you access your own wisdom. I’m here to support you in uncovering your path forward. You are not a diagnosis, a label, or a problem to solve—you are a whole person, deserving of being seen, understood, and accompanied through whatever challenges you’re facing.
Some of my superpowers as a therapist are gentleness, emotional attunement, and a good dose of humor. I laugh with my clients, I cry with them, and I find so much joy and in the work we share together.
“We do not think ourselves into new ways of living, we live ourselves into new ways of thinking.”
- Hillary McBride, Psychologist and Author of The Wisdom of Your Body.
My Commitment to You
I will support you as an active, dedicated partner in your journey of healing and growth. Guided by my genuine curiosity and therapeutic training, I will ask questions that bring clarity, helping us both gain a deeper understanding of who you are. I will reflect back what I see in you, highlighting your strengths and help make sense of what causes your distress. My insights and feedback will be direct, honest and shared with deep care and compassion.
I can and will hold onto hope for you, especially when things feel tough. I will work diligently to ease any feelings of isolation by staying close to your experience, creating a space where you feel truly seen and supported. Together, we can work toward your hopes and goals, side by side.
Therapeutic Influences
Having a sense of someone’s influences can offer insight into their approach and values.
Some of the thinkers, speakers, writers, researchers, and clinicians who have shaped my therapeutic work include: Richard Schwartz, Dr. Gabor Maté, Dr. Dan Siegel, Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, Diana Fosha, Dr. Sue Johnson, Deb Dana, Brene Brown, Dr. Hillary McBride, Hilary Jacobs Hendel, Dr. Allan Wade, Dr. Shelly Dean. Their ideas and contributions deeply inform the way I approach healing and transformation with my clients.
Education & Advanced Training
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I hold Master’s degrees in Counselling Psychology (M.A.C.P.) and Education (M.Ed). This background gives me a strong foundation for understanding how relationships and institutional systems in our lives, both past and present, shape who we are.
